The Atlanta Thrashers traded prospect Karl Stewart and draft options to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday for veteran defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski. In addition to Stewart, who had 22 goals and 18 assists in 71 games with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL last season, the Ducks get a second-round selection in the 2007 NHL entry draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2008.

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - The Anaheim Ducks never were happy with an arbitrator's decision on a contract for Vitaly Vishnevski. Now, they are much more pleased.

The Atlanta Thrashers signed 2005 fourth-round pick Jordan LaVallee to a three-year contract Monday. The 20-year-old LaVallee, a forward who is a native of Corvallis, Ore., scored 19 goals with 18 assists in 37 regular-season games in the 2005-06 season for Quebec of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Rangers agreed to terms Monday with forward Marcel Hossa. The 24-year-old left winger posted career highs with 10 goals, 16 points and 64 games played last season, his first with New York. Hossa, who represented Slovakia at this year's Turin Olympics, also had a goal, three assists and a plus-3 rating in seven games at the hockey world championships.

ATLANTA (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers gave up two players for Niko Kapanen. It wasn't surprising that they locked up the center to a multi-year contract on Thursday.

The Atlanta Thrashers signed center Niko Kapanen to a multiyear contract on Thursday. Kapanen, who earned the league minimum $450,000 last season with Dallas, was acquired by the Thrashers with a draft pick for Patrik Stefan and Jaroslav Modry on June 24. The 28-year-old Kapanen had career highs of 35 points and 14 goals last sesason.

The Atlanta Thrashers signed free-agent forward Kyle Wanvig on Tuesday and re-signed forwards Derek MacKenzie, Karl Stewart and Kevin Doell. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Wanvig had four goals and eight assists in 51 games for Minnesota last season. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right wing has appeared in 64 career games over three seasons with Minnesota.
